Family Fiesta! Community in Hand, Achieving in Tandem

Dear Alumni,

Anderson Junior College will be having a Family Day Carnival on 2 April 2011, Saturday, 9am — 3pm in the College.

Through a fun-filled fiesta, we hope to build the 'AJ Family' spirit where our students, alumni and parents come together to set up stalls and to bond over food and games.

We also hope to raise awareness of the significance of community service, and fulfill our responsibility to society through a college-wide involvement in community service. Proceeds from the sale of coupons for the carnival will be donated to the college's long-term partner, Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA). A voluntary welfare organisation, AWWA provides a range of services to underprivileged families, senior citizens and children with disabilities. The funds raised will be used to refurbish AWWA's Seniors Activity Centre in Ang Mo Kio and to purchase materials for their Resource Centre, which serves children with special needs from the AWWA School.

We would like to invite you to join us at the carnival as well as to support this worthy cause. Each coupon is $5. Alumni who wish to purchase Family Day coupons in advance may contact Mrs Ong Choon Yam (koh_choon_yam@moe.edu.sg). If you wish to set up stalls during the carnival, you may contact Mr Andy Lim (lim_che_pinn_andy@moe.edu.sg) before 4 March. We are also looking for sponsorship of lucky draw prizes. If you wish to contribute lucky draw prizes, you may contact Ms Soh Swee Keng (soh_swee_keng@moe.edu.sg).

All proceeds from the carnival will be donated to AWWA.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact Ms New Yi Cheen (new_yi_cheen@moe.edu.sg).

Thank you and we look forward to having you with us at the Family Day Carnival.

Yours sincerely,
AJC Family Day 2011 Organising Committee

Recycling of Used AJC School Uniforms

We initiated a school uniform collection drive last December to collect and recycle your unwanted uniforms to your juniors who will need them more. The response is very positive, with as many as 5-6 boxes of mixed genders' uniforms collected.

Subsequently, we held a collection session on 28 January in Dance Stuidio for JC1 students eligible for Financial Assistance Scheme. Many students turned up during the event and among them, 9 students collected a total of 15 shirts / blouses, 15 skirts, 5 sets of PE attire and 2 AJC ties.

We would like to thank you for donating your unwanted school uniforms that have benefited your juniors with financial needs.
