Alumni Exco Weekly Updates #6

Dear fellow Excos members,

Met up Qixiang, Xavier and Kent for dinner on Fri. Was thinking of sending the weekly updates so as to share here some of the things we discussed. A few of us meet up once in a while to brainstorm or discuss ideas (in casual settings) on various issues concerning the Alumni so that the discussion during our 2-hours monthly meeting can be more fruitful.

If anyone else is interested to join us for our coffee sessions, pls let me know so we can keep you informed on our future sessions.

1) We brainstormed some ideas which Alumni can work with the school on for the 25th Anniversary as an opportunity to define what is AJ spirit. Main idea is that we have an interview team and we can interview 25 past & current principals, teachers and people important in the history of the school. 25 people to symbolize 25 years, where we can get insights how AJ has changed over the last 25 years and how different era of people share their definition of AJ spirit. anniversary. Something we thought might be quite interesting is to use the number 25.

Of course, this is just an idea. If anyone else thought of something special, please share here too. Whether such an idea can pull through will not just depends on the Exco consensus, but also if we can amass the necessary resources and manpower to pull this through.

2) We also discussed abit on the preparations required for the meeting with Ms Leong. Qixiang commented that we can produce an archetype of a Key Success Factors Loop. As our meeting with Ms Leong is in June, we still have time to think about this and discuss during the next meeting.

As pointed out so many times, our biggest constraint to growth currently is having Alumni who are willing to actively contribute the building the Alumni. We need so many different talents that I have since lost count. Let’s all try spreading the Alumni spirit abit more and get those who want to contribute to come for our meeting.

Best Regards,

Alumni Exco Weekly Updates #5

Dear fellow Excos members,

Qixiang, Xavier and me have submitted the writeup on the Alumni handbook last week. Let’s see if MOE will be giving us some response.

Spoke to Marcus, think the next night cycling and CIP preparations are coming along fine.

Noticed that the AJC website is still the committee structure of 05/06. Ms Siau, can I know who we can talk to so that we can furnish him with the information to make the necessary changes?

Alumni Exco Weekly Updates #4

Dear fellow Excos members,

Since Kent mentioned that everyone is now in the ajcaa yahoo group, I shall stop including individual emails in my weekly updates. For those who came for Monday’s meeting, I believe you all will agree with me that we had a fruitful discussion, where a lot of decisions are made and many things are waiting to be done.

For this week, besides some updates, I also have some thoughts which I hope to hear your opinions on (highlighted in yellow). Your contributions will be beneficial in us making better decisions as a team.

1) From the discussion on welfare for Exco, the treasurer has mentioned that funding is no issue and that the secretaries volunteer to keep track of everyone’s birthdays. If no violent objections, we’ll start implementing this.

For those whose birthdays are over, guess you all just have to wait for the next round. So Kent , shall we start celebrating birthdays during Jun meeting (for those born in Apr-Jun)? Is everyone ok with this proposal?

2) Had coffee with Ridzuan yesterday. With his help, me and Kelly now have admin status to the AJC Facebook group also. Seems like only admin can send Events notifications to the 1,700 over strong community. So we now have another channel to tell those in the Facebook group about our upcoming events.

He shared some ideas on how we can better grow our online presence and the technical challenges involved in improving online engagement. Unfortunately his work commitments is quite heavy, hence he’s not able to help resolve the technical challenges involved in improving the website (changing scripts, building applications, etc). The search for a website programmer who’s willing to volunteer his services on a regular basis continues.

Hear from you all soon. Have a good weekend.

Best Regards,
Keith

Alumni Exco Weekly Updates #3

Dear all,

Hope the week has ended well for everyone. For those who came for the AGM, thanks for attending. For those who didn't, will show you all a ppt that was done for the AGM. It seems to be too big to send thr the yahoo groups. This was presented during the AGM on what was done and what we'll be doing in the coming term. The treasurer report was not part of the slides, but was also presented during the AGM.

Looking at events timeline, there is much to be done. Hopefully with the expertise and resources on hand, we'll be able to organise all of them successfully, achieve the objectives set and plot our way to a bigger vision.

Some updates from the AGM.

1) Junkai will be marketing head. Archiving and consolidating of pictures and writeups will comes under marketing as marketing materials. Believe he'll touch base with Geraldine as and when he needs help on design matters.

2) Sabrina and Nafisah will handle events management and coordination. They will coordinate and keep pace with all the events that are going to happen, including bursary awards, mentorship programs, tutoring programs, etc. Centralising event management is a tough job but essential to ensure that we don't fall behind on things that are suppose to happen. I'm confident they can handle it well.

3) Cia Ai will be our chief writer/ editor. She is currently a law student at SMU. I know her through recommendations from Qixiang & Xavier. She will vet all our writeups for consistency checks before it goes to the website and newsletter. Given her tight schedule, she might not be able to join us for monthly meetings. Tho i do hope she can pop by once in a while.

4) Kent and Xavier will be our secretary and assistant secretary respectively.

5) Ruimin wi
ll be pioneering our CIP program. As mentioned by Ms Siau before, the CIP system in AJ has been ongoing for many years. This is something we can build on, so that in years to come, the AJ community will be recognised as the group that's very much into voluntary work. Based on on-going discussions during the AGM, we can decide if we want to adopt the same home as the school, (so that students can continue doing volunteering work at the same home after they graduate) or adopt a home that only belongs to AJCAA. No decision has been made on this yet.

Me and Siauhui was going thr the AJC Facebook page when we come across this page.

Facebook can be a very powerful tool if we know how to use it well. Still thinking abt this. Anyone has any ideas, feel free to share in the coming Mon's meeting.

BTW, Geeks' Night was a great success with 40 over people turning up. Seems like such an event really appeals to the young crowd as a good way for them to really catch up with their classmates. Majority of them came in classes and groups.

Geeks' Night team, good job! Possible to get the photos and writeup ready for the closure on Mon?

Apologies for the long email. See you all on Monday.

Best Regards
